I successfully made it all the way through @notjustbikes’s latest podcast without moving back to the Netherlands mid listen. But it was hard.

We’re lucky where we live in Canada — our town is at the end of the road, so no stroad Main Street. Kids actually roam the streets still without parents. We are in the forest within 2 minutes’ walking. But it was hard to find this place and it comes with several big trade offs.

@dx @notjustbikes I live a similar experience in a small town of 20,000 an hour out of Toronto. Definitely no exemplar of good urbanism but due to its small footprint everything is within walking or cycling distance. Our closest thing to a stroad is still only 1 lane and the town is filled with kids independently riding bikes around town during the warmer months. It’s no Utrecht but it’s not Yonge and Davis Drive either.
